English has
now become a global communication medium and a global lingua franca as a
result of economic, political, and cultural influences. This change of
role of the English language has brought new concerns to EFL teachers in
the classrooms. In addition, the implementation of the competency-based
education policy by the Department of National Education provides new
dimensions and challenges to the teaching of EFL in Indonesia. This
seminar is designed to open a forum for TEFL teachers and professionals
to share views, opinions, and experiences in the cross-cultural
communication and contexts.
The annual TEFLIN conference is one of the key events
that enable individual ELT professionals to sustain and extend their own
professional development and contribute to the development and support
of fellow ELT professionals.
The international nature of the conference provides a
unique and equal opportunity each year for all ELT professionals and
practitioners to submit proposals for inclusion in the conference
program. It enables both new and established fellows to contribute to a
program that reflects the diversity and variety of the profession. The
conference also allows TEFLIN members and non-members to enjoy
networking professionally by exchanging experiences informally and/or
presenting and debating their professional views as part of the
conference program.
The quality and number of proposals submitted for
selection in the TEFLIN conferences in the past few years have increased
each year and the feedback from both delegates attending and those
delivering successful presentations has become a reference of the
current guidelines and procedures. The selection of proposals is made by
the 52nd TEFLIN Committee. These procedures aim to guide the selection
so that as many presentations as possible are successful. This policy of
inclusivity is balanced by the need to reflect the diversity of
conference attendants and the variety of teaching contexts worldwide so
that a stimulating conference program for all delegates is assured.
The conference program aims to include a balanced
representation of:
·
first time
and established presenters
·
a range of
relevant ELT topics and professional concerns
·
the ELT
sectors, e.g. school, university,
·
experience
of teaching in different contexts and levels of education
·
completed
research or research in progress
